The next panel will be on internet security.
Public Affairs: Beryl Michaels (e mail report)
A flyer has been prepared for the March 3 event being co-sponsored with Hadassah on Reproductive Rights. This program is for our members and their guests. We are encouraging all members of each organization to attend. It is an opportunity to see each other and to work together on an issue important to all of us. We will have to pay $50 to KOH library as they must hire their custodian for the evening. We will also be purchasing cookies, water and coffee/tea. We expect the $50 from each organization should cover the costs of the library, the refreshments and printing of flyers.
The event is free, but we are going to have a donations box. Jessica Birch, Hadassah’s American Affairs chair, and I are thinking the money should go to either the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Freedom or the California Coalition for Reproductive Freedom. Obviously, this decision has to be made prior to the event so we can have a sign on the donation box. We are also going to have an action plan. Jess and I will be figuring that out in the near future. We want to talk with our speakers about this and about hand-outs, if any.
We have not yet finalized who will welcome and facilitate the program.
Gay has sent electronic flyers to all the synagogues and the federation. Iris has sent the flyer to our membership. Hadassah has sent the flyer to its membership via an e-letter. Deni Marshall sent the flyer to the Bnai Israel Rosh Chodesh list. I handed out flyers for both the Elder Abuse panel on 2/27 and this program at the Women of Distinction luncheon, We want to keep the program within the Jewish community with emphasis on our memberships, their friends and families. Any suggestions on how to encourage attendance is most welcome.
We will have a table for materials from both groups.
We will need volunteers to help with:
1. Greeting people
2. Sign-in, name tags and handing out programs
3. Helping with refreshments
4. Helping with clean-up
5. Someone to bring NCJW materials for the ”organizations table”
If anyone can help us line up 3 or 4 volunteers, that would be great. We are also recruiting three or four Hadassah volunteers.
Please invite anyone to call me (486-4926) or email me (beryl.miochaels@comcast.net) with suggestions.
Lydia expressed disappointment that the event was scheduled for March 3 when the Co-Presidents and VP of Financial Development would be at the National Convention in Dallas. She reminded the board it is their responsibility to attend all events when possible. The board will need to decide which organization should get donation. Iris will research the organizations and e mail the board. Doris will bring the NCJW banner.
