Board Minutes
1/11/2011


Attending:  Lydia Inghram, Carole Jacoby, Cheryl Weiner, Maureen Sipes, Debbie Gordon, Doris Gray, Irene Jenkins, Betty Reuben, Iris Bachman, Bonnie Penix, Renee Schoch, Joan Bories, Marianne Laws, Janet Ehrlich, and Sharon Cohen
Guests:  Liz Igra, Susan Hayword, and E. J. (AERC resident)

Minutes:  Cheryl moved and Joan seconded to accept the minutes as presented.  Motion approved.

Financial Development: Cheryl Weiner
A check for $3,350 was presented to Roy Alexander, CEO of the Sacramento Children's Home on January 6.  The presentation was made at the North Area Crisis Nursery.  NCJW members, staff of the nurseries and members of Friends of the Crisis Nursery Board attended.

Chico's Wardrobe Party is on Feb. 13 at 9:00  A flyer will be mailed later this week, as well as one in the bulletin.  RSVP is requested so refreshment can be planned.

The Rio Jazz Band Concert is off the the table due to a conflict with Mosaic Law Congregation.

Membership:  Renee Schoch and Joan Bories
The membership committee is meeting 2/14 to select date for next brunch.

Life Membership:  Marianne Laws

Life Members will be announced at Founder's Day.  Marianne will check with Charlotte Ballard about blank note cards.

Community Service
Blanket Project  149 since Sept.
Family Shalom:  Betty Reuben
Next meeting will be 2/12.  Website contract has been renewed, and they are in the process of getting brochure updated.  Outreach program for teens on healthy relationships is continuing . Betty will ask Nannette Wong to e mail calender to Iris to be included on section website.  A panel on Domestic Violence at B'nai Israel is in the process of being planned.

Elder Abuse:  Irene Jenkins
The second event will be at Mosaic Law on Feb. 27.  Committee is working on expanding publicity, and three panelist have been confirmed.  The next panel will discuss physical and emotional abuse, and a program at AERC will be planned.
Sister Nora's Place

Final calendar is established.  Request for subs will be in the bulletin.

Crisis Nursery
Collection of diapers, food and formula will be made at Founder's Day.
Carole will write an article about volunteer opportunities for the bulletin.

Public Affairs:  No Report

Treasurer:  Maureen Sipes
Income: $20,489.57
Expenses: $11, 451.31

Financial Secretary:  Debbie Gordon
Four members unpaid and will be taken off the role at the end of March. if they are still unpaid.

Tributes:  Janet Ehrlich
Packets of tributes should have Janet's information.  She will have then available at Founder's Day,

Program:  Doris Gray
Sixty-three reservations have been received for Founder's Day.
Installation will be June 26.  The committee looked into having installation at Casa Gardens however, eighty reservations are required on Sundays.  Other locations will be checked out.

Crocker Art Museum  event will be April 3.  Members and guests will pay at the door for museum entrance, but RSVP is needed for 11:00 tour.  Lunch at the museum cafe is optional.

Bulletin / Website:  Iris Bachman
Deadline for bulletin is Jan. 15
In the future websites for Family Shalom and Section will be combined into one contract with Go Daddy.  There will be further discussion of including Family Shalom on Section website.

Old Business
Convention:  Lydia, Carole and Cheryl are attending.  Jan. 26 is deadline for early registration.
Policy and Procedures:  Still waiting for National
Council Shabbat: Beth Shalom on March 25
Renee and Joan will coordinate Oneg Shabbat.  Cary Cohn will coordinate services.  Lydia suggested including music by Debbie Friedman.

New Business
Liz Igra and Susan Hayword (Central Valley Holocaust Educators' Network) is requesting NCJW co-sponsor a program on Jewish Heritage in Eastern Europe. Jeniffer Norton will present a photo-narrative about how Jewish life and the Holocaust have been remembered or forgotten in Eastern Europe.
The date is Sunday, March 20 and time and location will be determined
There will be no charge to attend.
The Board agreed that this would be a good opportunity to bring organizations together.

Lydia presented idea for making fleece blankets.  This could be a one day or ongoing project. Board agreed it was a good idea but details need to be worked out.  April is a possible time since this is Child Abuse Awareness month.
A Sundae Sunday event was also suggested.
